First grade students continue their journey towards literacy with instruction in the five components of reading including phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.  Students work with their teacher in small groups to focus on specific skill development.  Mathematical reasoning continues to develop as students continue to work with objects to understand addition/subtraction of groups to 10 and manipulate objects up to 100.  First graders also explore the world around them by having science and social studies integrated into their day. They investigate topics such as weather, sound, geography, and economics, as well as many more! Last, first graders practice social skills and emotional development through Conscious Discipline, literacy read alouds, centers, and play. Students are growing academically, physically, socially, and emotionally!
